About this course

Course summary: Learn to market fantasy books without replacing your creative voice with hype. Across 40 practical lessons, identify subgenre readers, define a promise, build an author brand, prepare a launch, write book descriptions and newsletters, develop reader communities, evaluate collaborations, test paid advertising, and measure real results. Finish with a researched 90-day fantasy-book marketing portfolio and a 100-point assessment.

Course overview: This course treats promotion as a set of reader-centered writing decisions. Examples cover cozy, epic, romantic, urban, and dark fantasy. It is suitable for aspiring, independent, and traditionally published authors; no published book is required. Work with a real project or a clearly labeled invented title.

Audience and prerequisites: Writers with a book premise, short manuscript, or published fantasy title. No prior advertising experience is assumed. Suggested effort: 3–5 hours per module, with additional time for a chosen capstone.

Course outcomes: Describe a plausible fantasy readership; compare comparable titles; write a reader promise, brand language, retailer copy, emails and ads; create a launch calendar; evaluate permissions, costs and claims; calculate campaign indicators; revise a 90-day plan using evidence.

Portfolio and completion: Complete the 40 writing labs and retain their short outputs as a marketing toolkit. The capstone is a unified campaign portfolio with reader evidence, original materials, a calendar, a capped budget, measurement rules and revision notes. The 100-point rubric appears in Lesson 10.4.

AI writing partner: An optional AI assistant may suggest alternate headlines, check a calendar for missing dependencies, or challenge an assumption. The author selects all language and decisions. Verify platform policies, promotional terms, prices, audience data, quotations and claims independently; never invent reader testimonials or paste private subscriber data into a tool.
