About this course
Course summary: Advance your fiction through forty practical lessons in narrative structure, point of view, character, setting, plot, theme, style, revision, critique, and publication. Build a connected portfolio and finish a polished short story with a documented revision process.
Course overview: For writers who know the basics of scenes and sentences and want to make stronger craft decisions. No degree or software purchase is required. Expect about 4–6 hours per module, plus additional capstone drafting time. You will collect scene studies, an outline, revised excerpts, a submission plan, and a 2,500–3,500 word final story. Each lesson has independent teaching, practice, and self-check; revise work until its stated criteria are met.
Overall outcomes: Design a causal plot; sustain a deliberate viewpoint; create character choices with costs; make setting shape action; integrate themes and motifs; revise across structural and sentence levels; exchange evidence-based critique; and prepare a professional publishing packet.
AI collaboration policy: You remain the author. AI may offer questions, compare alternatives, and flag unclear passages when you choose to share text. Confirm any factual or market claim independently. Do not paste private material you lack permission to share. Every lab can be completed without AI, and you decide which suggestions enter your story.
Completion standard: Complete the forty lesson labs, retain at least one revised example from each module, and submit the Lesson 10.4 capstone packet. Check the self-check answers against your own draft before marking a lesson complete. AI feedback can help revision but does not replace your decision.
